Short Bio (122 words)

Faryar Hosseini is a native of Iran currently based in NYC. While living in Tehran, she wrote and directed two award-winning stage plays, as well as her short film Lego, which was screened at cinemas around Iran in 2021. After moving to the US in 2018, she pursued an MFA in filmmaking at Ohio University where she completed three short films. Since 2021, she has attended a program at The New School, where her thesis focuses on the representation of Iran in US media. In addition to her research, she completed two short films in her time at The New School, one of which—Detached—was selected for participation in the 50th Athens International Film and Video Festival in April of 2023.

My name is Faryar Hosseini, I am a movie buff by blood and a filmmaker by practice. Originally from Iran, I currently live in the New York City metropolitan area. I have spent more than a decade learning and gaining experience in academia, with a BFA in theater, and MFA in film, and an MA in media studies. These educational experiences have prepared me to fill a variety of roles. Besides writing and directing my own short films and plays, I have had the privilege to work on multiple film sets in different capacities, including roles such as assistant camera, production assistant, BTS photographer, and sound mixer, among others.
In addition, I am also passionate about film theory and have written movie reviews in both Persian and English, in addition to numerous academic papers, with concentrations on documentary and diasporic cinema.
What can I do for you? I love making movies, and I love helping others in the process of making theirs. Why? Because as Orson Welles said, “A writer needs a pen, an artist needs a brush, but a filmmaker needs an army.” Please DM me for more information about my work and services!
